Insider Reveals Mets Prospects Who Could Be Traded For Dylan Cease
The New York Mets have reported interest in Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox. The right-handed ace is on the market and could be on the move before Spring Training.
That, however, is only if the White Sox find the trade package they're looking for.
Chicago has been smart with how they're handling Cease, looking for a return that will make them better in the future. If they trade their 28-year-old ace, they're certain to be transitioning into a rebuild.
The Mets have prospects to get a deal done.
Whether or not they want to move those prospects is the question, but they could intrigue the White Sox front office with their young talent.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Chicago has been asking teams for their top prospects. Bowden notes that it's fair to assume that the New York names they'd be interested in are Luisangel Acuna, Kevin Parada, Drew Gilbert, and others.
He also noted that the asking price of the White Sox is "unrealistic" at this point.
Considering Cease has two years left on his current contract, he fits what Steve Cohen is looking for at them moment.
The Mets want to have a competitive team in 2024 and then transition into contender status for the 2025 season, according to reports since the last trade deadline.
With Cease having that extra year, he allows New York to build their pitching staff around him and Kodai Senga when they're ready to compete.
The club did an excellent job of building their system up last deadline, but now they face the tough decision of tearing it down and adding MLB-proven talent.
