Jose Quintana Roughed up in New York Mets Spring Debut
Not the start he wanted.
Jose Quintana was roughed up in his first start of Grapefruit League play, which was also his Mets debut.
Facing the Houston Astros, Quintana was only able to record a total of two outs, allowing five runs on four hits with one walk on 30 pitches.
Quintana surrendered a long two-run home run to David Hensley in the inning as well.
According to Quintana, he felt a little bit rushed in his first game action with the pitch clock. The left-hander did say he was able to adjust to it, though, as the inning progressed.
Quintana is currently slated to be the Mets' No. 4 starter in their rotation. The southpaw is coming off a strong season, in which he posted a 2.93 ERA in 165.2 innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals.
While Tuesday's outing was disappointing for Quintana, the hope is that he is just shaking off the rust at the start of spring training.
