Should the Mets consider a reunion this offseason with a veteran hurler?

The New York Mets have some questions to answer about the bullpen.

New York's biggest roster need certainly is in the starting rotation -- like much of Major League Baseball right now -- but the Mets will have other work to do. The Mets finished the 2023 season with the 22nd-best bullpen ERA with a disappointing 4.45.

The Mets will get a major player back in the mix with All-Star Edwin Díaz expected to be ready for Opening Day, but the club will need to make other additions, as well. One player who could make sense is free agent reliever David Robertson, according to SNY's Danny Abriano.

"Robertson didn't want the Mets to trade him at the deadline when he was sent to the (Miami Marlins)," Abriano said. "And it would make plenty of sense for New York to consider a reunion with the still-effective setup man. Robertson struggled after being dealt to Miami, but rounded back into form in September, allowing a run in only one of his last 11 appearances of the regular season. Entering his age-39 season, it's fair to believe that Robertson would be open to a one-year deal."

Robertson joined the Mets before the 2023 season and was stellar before being traded to the Marlins. He compiled a 2.05 ERA in 40 appearances with New York to go along with 14 saves. Robertson struggled after being traded to Miami, but still makes sense for New York. He already has had success pitching for the Mets and would be a solid setup man for Díaz.
