Mets Linked To Pair Of All-Stars To Improve Outfield This Offseason
The New York Mets could use another outfielder this offseason.
New York has some serious question marks in the outfield with Brandon Nimmo the only one in a solid spot. Starling Marte has dealt with a plethora of injuries and it's unclear where he stands at the moment. Jeff McNeil likely lands the other outfield spot but has played all over the field and may be needed elsewhere.
It wouldn't hurt to add another outfielder and two All-Stars that are being linked to New York are Teoscar Hernández and Jorge Soler, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.
"Currently, the Mets only have three full-time outfielders on their 40-man roster who might feasibly contribute to the big league team next season," DiComo said. "They have been linked in rumors to center fielder Michael A. Taylor, an elite defender who could push Brandon Nimmo to a corner spot. Korean free agent Jung Hoo Lee is another option to fill that sort of role, though he’s not quite as celebrated a defender.
"The Mets could also look to add a slugging corner outfielder who can take regular reps at (designated hitter), such as Teoscar Hernández or Jorge Soler. They’re going to add offense this offseason, and it’s almost certain to come in the form of an outfielder on a Major League contract."
Both Hernández and Soler would make sense for the Mets. Soler shined with the Miami Marlins last season and clubbed 36 home runs and drove in 75 runs in 137 games played. Hernández appeared in 160 games with the Seattle Mariners last season and clubbed 26 home runs, drove in 93 runs, tallied 29 doubles, and slashed .258/.305/.435.
