Mets ace Max Scherzer has been scratched from his scheduled start against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday with neck spasms.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, Scherzer's neck spasms are not considered to be serious and he is likely day-to-day with this new ailment.

This is a new issue for Scherzer, who is also still dealing with lingering soreness near his scapula.

“Just don’t break,’’ Scherzer told The New York Post. “I’m trying like hell not to join the IL. I’m fighting through this and doing everything I can. But this is the big leagues and no one cares if you’re hurt. You’ve got to go out there and perform, so I get it.”

Scherzer missed significant time with the Washington Nationals back in 2019 due to a scapula injury.

The three-time Cy Young winner has had a rough start to his 2023 campaign, posting a 5.56 ERA in five starts.

David Peterson will start in Scherzer's place tonight. The Mets also put reliever Jimmy Yacabonis on the 15-day IL with a left quad strain.
