Mets Reportedly Linked To Superstar Slugger; Former MVP In Free Agency
The New York Mets could end up making a major splash in free agency.
New York attempted to land former Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto but missed out. Because the Mets missed out on Yamamoto, they still have plenty of money to spend.
It's unclear exactly what direction the club will go in, but it's clear that there's going to be plenty of rumors swirling around the club throughout the rest of the offseason. One player who surprisingly could be an option for the Mets reportedly is former Chicago Cubs star Cody Bellinger, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"I think the favorite right now has to be the Cubs for Bellinger," Heyman said. "We can rule out the (New York Yankees). The (Toronto Blue Jays) have done some stuff so I still think they could do it possibly. I still think the (San Francisco Giants) could do it possibly. He could help a number of teams. He could help Seattle, he could help the (Los Angeles Angels), he could help the (New York Mets).
"But, to me the Cubs haven't done anything except for the manager. They bring in a new manager, do we really expect them to end up doing nothing? And we know they are looking at offense. That would be the number one play."
Heyman attempted to take a look into Bellinger's market. He stated that the Cubs likely are the favorites to land him right now, but floated the Mets as a possible option. At this point, he is the best offensive free agent available.
A move still should be considered unlikely, but it certainly would be interesting.
