Mets Reportedly Met With Star Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto On Saturday
The New York Mets aren't messing around.
Mets owner Steve Cohen and president of baseball operations David Stearns recently traveled to Japan to meet face-to-face with Orix Buffaloes star Yoshinobu Yamamoto about a possible deal with New York.
Since then, there hasn't been much rumbling about whether or not the Mets would have a second meeting with the young star. Yamamoto has been in the news over the last week as he reportedly has met with the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees among other clubs.
At this point, it's unclear where he will land, but New York did get some good news. Cohen reportedly hosted Yamamoto at his home for dinner on Saturday night with the "Mets contingent," according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.
"Yoshinobu Yamamoto had dinner on Saturday at Steve Cohen's house with a Mets contingent, The Post has learned," Sherman said. "Mets contingent was Cohen, his wife, Alex, David Stearns, Carlos Mendoza, and pitching coach Jeremy Hefner."
While this doesn't necessarily provide much of an update on where Yamamoto is leaning regarding choosing a team, it is very interesting that Mets had a second meeting.
New York has long been rumored as one of the favorites to land Yamamoto this offseason but the club has plenty of stiff competition. The Mets are seemingly doing everything they can to get a deal done so that one possibly could happen in the not-so-distant future.
