Mets' Top Prospect Floated As Possible Trade Candidate For Superstar Pitcher

It sounds like New York's top prospect could be a possible trade candidate

The New York Mets are in an interesting spot.

New York certainly has improved this offseason but hasn't made a massive move as many expected it to. The Mets have been linked to multiple star players but have opted for smaller deals with upside rather than the mega deals.

At this point in the offseason, it's certainly unlikely that the Mets will spend big this offseason. While this is the case, there still could be a trade or two. One player who has been linked to the Mets is Chicago White Sox superstar Dylan Cease.

The 28-year-old has been mentioned in trade rumors all offseason. With each passing day, it seems more and more likely he will be dealt. If the Mets were to make a move, one player who has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate is top prospect, Luisangel Acuña.

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter compiled a list of hypothetical trade packages for Cease from each of the clubs that had been linked to him. Reuter mentioned Acuña as the centerpiece of a possible deal involving the Mets.

"Trade Proposal: Mets acquire (right-handed pitcher) Dylan Cease in exchange for (shortstop) Luisangel Acuña, (catcher) Kevin Parada, (right-handed pitcher) Christian Scott, and (right-handed pitcher) Raimon Gomez," Reuter said. The Mets did a nice job restocking the farm system at the trade deadline, but they would almost certainly have to part with one of the top prospects they acquired in the Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander deals—shortstop Luisangel Acuña and outfielder Drew Gilbert.

"Pairing one of those top-tier prospects with 2022 first-round pick Kevin Parada would be a good starting point in negotiations, and would give the White Sox a great long-term outlook at catcher after Edgar Quero was acquired over the summer."

New York still could use another starting pitcher and landing Cease would be the perfect option depending on Chicago's asking price.
