So you're saying there's a chance?

The New York Mets are in a prime position to add a superstar this offseason, and this MLB insider thinks they could land one.

ESPN insider Jeff Passan was a guest on the "Baseball is Dead" podcast, where they discussed Juan Soto and the San Diego Padres, who were one of baseball's most disappointing teams in 2023, along with the Mets.

With Soto entering his final year of arbitration in 2024, Passan believes it's a possibility that the Padres trade him.

“I think the Mets are a scary possibility for Juan Soto and I think the Mets probably are in a better position to offer prospects to go out and get him because I think Mets ownership has shown the aptitude and desire to sign guys like Juan Soto long-term that the (Boston) Red Sox have not,” Passan said.

The Mets retooled their farm system at the trade deadline this year, dealing Hall of Fame aces Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, among others in order to bring back several top prospects.

By acquiring Soto, it would make an instant impact to the Mets' lineup as well as their outfield defense. This type of move would immediately jettison the Mets back into the conversation as serious contenders.

In addition to the possibility of trading for Soto, superstar Shohei Ohtani will be a free agent this winter and Passan says he expects the Mets to be in on him.
