An intriguing candidate has just become available.

Kim Ng declined her mutual option to continue as the general manager of the Miami Marlins, making her a free agent.

Coincidentally, the New York Mets and president of baseball operations David Stearns are looking for a new GM after Billy Eppler shockingly resigned as Major League Baseball investigates him for possible misusage of the injured list.

MLB insider Joel Sherman of The New York Post believes Ng should be on the Mets' radar.

The Mets are already set to embark on a hunt for a new manager after Stearns fired Buck Showalter, so they will have their hands full in the coming weeks.

Regardless, Ng took over as GM of the Marlins in November of 2020 and in 2023 led the team to their first postseason appearance in a full 162-game season since 2003.

Per multiple reports, Ng wanted to remove some executives from the front office and did not want a president of baseball operations placed above her, but Marlins' ownership wasn't willing to meet her demands.

Ng grew up in Queens, and like Eppler, was the New York Yankees' assistant GM under Brian Cashman.

It's possible that Stearns could wait a year before bringing in a new GM. But it's also possible that Ng could be deemed a fit with the Mets.

When Ng was hired as the Marlins she became the first female GM in baseball history. Now, she could be a possibility for the Mets, who have a vacancy in this role.
