New York Mets Activate Promising Rookie From IL
He's back and ready to show what he can do.
The New York Mets have activated third baseman/DH Mark Vientos from the 10-day injured list.
Vientos landed on the IL on August 17 for left wrist tendonitis, but only spent the minimum 10 days on the shelf.
He played in one rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse, in which he logged all nine innings at third base and went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
The 23-year-old has struggled across multiple big-league stints with the Mets this season. In 119 at-bats, Vientos is slashing .193/.228/.286 with a .514 OPS, two home runs and 10 RBIs.
However, in Triple-A, Vientos is hitting .306/.387/.612 with a .999 OPS, 16 home runs and 50 RBIs in 61 games.
Vientos was a top ranked prospect in the Mets farm system prior to making his big-league debut at the end of last season.
Despite his early struggles, the Mets are hoping that Vientos can develop into a serviceable major league hitter and power option to complement Pete Alonso.
In addition to activating Vientos, the Mets called up reliever Jeff Brigham and designated outfielder Abraham Almonte and pitcher Adam Kolarek for assignment.
