Mets' Brandon Nimmo Eyeing Weekend Return to Spring Games
Positive injury news in Mets land.
According to Tim Healey of Newsday, center fielder Brandon Nimmo was a full participant in the Mets' workout on Wednesday.
Nimmo faced left-hander Brooks Raley in live batting practice and the Mets are aiming to get him back into spring games this weekend, per Healey.
This is major progress for Nimmo, who sprained his knee and ankle last Friday while sliding into second base in the Mets' Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins.
After undergoing imaging on Saturday, it was revealed that Nimmo had a low grade sprain of the knee and ankle and was week-to-week.
Alas, it appears that Nimmo is progressing quicker than expected. If he is able to get into game action this weekend, this makes his readiness for Opening Day look like a realistic possibility.
Nimmo also believes he will be ready for Opening Day as well.
"In my heart of hearts, yeah, I do think [I'll be ready for Opening Day]. Obviously, we have to see how it goes, but yeah, right now I definitely think that I’ll be ready for Opening Day."
