Mets' Brooks Raley Leaves Team USA due to Injury
One Mets reliever's status for Opening Day might be in question.
Left-hander Brooks Raley has been removed from Team USA's roster at the World Baseball Classic and is headed back to Port St. Lucie due to a low grade hamstring strain, as the Mets announced on Saturday morning.
According to the Mets, Raley experienced tightness in his left hamstring on Friday, which caused him to undergo imaging. That is when it was revealed that he has a low grade hamstring.
While the injury is not believed to be serious, the Mets have yet to give a timeline on Raley with just under three weeks until Opening Day.
Raley threw a scoreless inning for Team USA against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. He has now been replaced on the roster by former Met Aaron Loup.
The Mets acquired Raley from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this winter, which added much needed left-handed help to their bullpen.
With Raley expected to be the lone lefty in the Mets' bullpen to break camp, David Robertson could also be used against left-handed hitters, as he held them to a .550 OPS last season.
