New York Mets Have Interviewed Yankees Coach for Managerial Vacancy
The New York Mets have interviewed another managerial candidate.
According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the Mets have spoken with New York Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza.
The 43-year-old Mendoza has coached in the Yankees organization since 2009, and has served as Aaron Boone's bench coach for the past four seasons.
The Mets have a vacancy at manager after firing Buck Showalter upon the arrival of president of baseball operations David Stearns at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
Craig Counsell, Stearns' longtime manager with the Milwaukee Brewers, is viewed as the favorite for the Mets job. However, he may return to Milwaukee, and is also a candidate for the Cleveland Guardians and Houston Astros vacancies.
Mendoza and Counsell have both interviewed for the Guardian's managerial vacancy.
Mendoza also interviewed for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers openings after the 2020 season, and the Chicago White Sox after last season.
