New York Mets Have Reportedly Spoken With Free Agent Star Reliever
The New York Mets are targeting some of the top relief pitchers that are left on the market.
According to SNY insider Andy Martino, the Mets have spoken to the representatives of hard-throwing right-handed reliever Hector Neris.
Per Martino, Neris is seeking a deal between $7-11 million per year, which fits the Mets desired budget, as they are looking to spend around $10 million to round out their offseason.
As Martino also reported, the Mets have also spoken to lefty reliever Wandy Peralta and could bring back Adam Ottavino, who declined a $6.75 million option earlier this winter. They have shown interest in ex-Yankees superstar closer Aroldis Chapman as well, but that fit is less likely.
The Mets are said to be in competition with the Yankees and several other teams regarding Neris' services.
With star closer Edwin Diaz coming back from injury this season, the Mets must bolster their bullpen to give him the proper support in late innings. Neris would fit this bill, as would Peralta and Chapman.
