ARLINGTON, Texas — Former New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom had successful surgery on his torn UCL in his right elbow, according to Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy.

deGrom had surgery on Monday morning and Bochy reported that everything went as expected.

The Rangers announced last week that deGrom would miss the rest of the season with the injury, which required surgery. He is expected to miss at least part of the 2024 season.

The surgery was performed by the Rangers’ team surgeon, Dr. Keith Meister.

This is the second time that deGrom has had extensive surgery on his right elbow, with the first coming while he was a part of the Mets’ organization.

deGrom injured the elbow in 2010 after his first six professional starts with the Mets’ rookie-level Appalachian League, the Kingsport Mets. At the time he was diagnosed with a partially-torn UCL, but when four months of rest did not help the injury he underwent surgery and missed the entire 2011 season.

DeGrom made just six starts for the Rangers, going 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA and struck out 45 batters and walked four.

He left the Mets after nine seasons in free agency, signing a five-year, $185 million deal in December with the Rangers.

With the Mets, he was a four-time All-Star, a two-time All-MLB first-team selection, a two-time NL Cy Young winner, the NL Rookie of the Year and a two-time NL strikeout leader.

With the Mets he finished 84-57 with a 2.53 ERA and 1,652 strikeouts.
