The New York Mets lost one of their best hitters in the final game of the first half of the regular season.

Outfielder Tommy Pham exited the Mets' game against the San Diego Padres in the first inning with an apparent injury.

Pham appeared to injure his groin while chasing down a single off the bat of Ha-Seong Kim.

Following the play, Pham, 35, walked towards the Mets' dugout where he was met by an athletic trainer.

Pham exited the game and was replaced by Mark Canha in left field.

Entering play on Sunday, Pham has been one of the Mets' best hitters this season. In 205 at-bats, Pham slashed .278/.352/.488 with a .840 OPS, nine home runs and 34 RBIs.

Update: The Mets say Pham exited the game with right groin soreness. He will undergo imaging in New York on Monday.

Fortunately for Pham and the Mets, the All-Star break begins tomorrow. The hope is that his groin injury is not too serious and that he can return when the Mets open up play in the second half on Friday.
