New York Mets Outfielder Linked to Three Teams at Trade Deadline
The New York Mets figure to be buyers at this year's MLB trade deadline. Owner Steve Cohen wouldn't have it any other way, even if the team is currently struggling.
But they are also likely to move on from one player - outfielder Tommy Pham.
In a recent MLB.com article, Pham has been linked to a trio of teams consisting of the Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Guardians and the Texas Rangers.
Here is what the article says about New York and their approaching attempt to move Pham and his $6 million contract.
Pham’s one-year, $6 million deal has proven to be a good value for the Mets, who have gotten solid production from the 35-year-old while several of their regulars have struggled at the plate. Since May 28, Pham has an eye-popping 1.141 OPS with a .352 average, four home runs and 18 RBIs in 16 games, but the Mets are going to have to rely on their stars if they hope to turn things around. If the season continues to get away from them, Pham is the ideal trade piece for a club that doesn’t seem ready to blow anything up.
All three teams listed a potential suitors makes sense as they could all use help in the outfield and the designated hitter position.
But moving Pham, who is unlikely to fetch much as a 35-year-old rental, still doesn't make a ton of sense. Especially if they are relying on him and his 1.141 OPS for offensive production.
However, if players like Francisco Lindor, Daniel Vogelbach and even Pete Alonso can start to produce at their expected levels, then Pham may be a piece they could look to move in the coming six weeks.
