New York Mets Promote Top Prospect Vasil to Triple-A Syracuse

NEW YORK - A well earned promotion.
On Monday, the New York Mets promoted top pitching prospect Matt Vasil to Triple-A Syracuse, according to Tim Healey of Newsday.
In 10 starts with Double-A Binghamton, Vasil posted a 3.71 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. The right-hander struck out 57 batters and walked eight in 51 innings.
Vasil's promotion comes in the wake of him earning Eastern League Pitcher of the Month honors in May. During this span, he posted a 2.52 ERA in 25 innings. He also held opposing batters to a .187/.223/.364 slash line.
Several individuals have predicted that Vasil will make his big-league debut this season. With the 23-year-old's recent promotion to Syracuse, this looks a lot more realistic for the 2023 season.
Vasil is the Mets' eighth best prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and their fourth best pitching prospect overall.
Starting pitching has been a major issue for the Mets at the major league level this season, as their rotation had posted a 4.95 ERA (25th in MLB) entering play on Tuesday night.
The Mets are razor thin on starting pitching depth at the upper levels of the minor leagues, which is why Vasil could come into the fold sooner rather than later.
