Mets Pitching Prospect Scott Makes Huge Jump in Top 30 Rankings
The New York Mets have a prospect that is rocketing up the team’s Top 30 prospects list, which was updated by MLB.com.
Right-handed pitcher Christian Scott, who is now at Double-A Binghamton, was the team’s fastest-rising prospect in the adjusted rankings, taking into account the first four months of the season and last month’s MLB Draft.
Scott moved from No. 29 to No. 12 in the rankings.
Why did Scott make such a jump? Per MLB.com:
Scott was limited to only 58 2/3 innings at Single-A and High-A for what should have been his first full season in 2022. He’s already gotten more starts in 2023 and has ascended to Double-A while showing a mid-90s fastball, promising slider and developing changeup. A former reliever at Florida, the right-hander might have needed a little extra time to grow into starting, but he’s looking like a solid Mets option for the second half of 2024.
The Mets took Scott in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft and limited him to three games at their Florida Complex League team. In 2022 he worked 58.2 innings, going 3-3 with a 4.45 ERA, striking out 77 and walking 22.
This season he started at High Class-A Brooklyn, and with the Cyclones he was 1-0 with a 2.28 ERA in six games (all starts), throwing 23.2 innings. He struck out 27 and walked four.
That earned him a promotion to Double-A Binghamton on June 12. With the Rumble Ponies, Scott is 3-3 in nine starts with a 3.00 ERA in 51 innings. He’s struck out 64 and walked eight.
For the 2023 season he is 4-4 with a 2.93 ERA in 16 games (all starts), throwing 76.2 innings with 92 strikeouts and 12 walks.
