The New York Mets have one of the most promising young bats in the league, and he could reach an important milestone in 2024 for the first time.

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter looked around the league and found 10 players who could find themselves hitting the 30 home run mark for the first time in 2024. The player he chose for the Mets was a no-brainer.

Francisco Alvarez broke onto the scene in 2023 after hitting 25 home runs in 123 games. It would make sense for him to be the next New York player to reach the milestone, but he actually is not currently on-pace to have the same power success at the plate.

Through the first nine games of the season, he had one home run. If he were to play every game of the season, that would put him on pace for an 18 home run season. But that doesn't necessarily mean he is having a worse season at the plate than he did last year.

The 22-year-old catcher has a higher batting average and on-base plus slugging percentage than he did during his 2023 campaign.

He has some gotten some luck at the plate when looking at is expected batting average, but even then things still look to be a bit better.

Alvarez's strikeout-to-walk ratio still needs work, but if he can raise everything else then it might be worth the slight drop in home runs.

He could also catch fire and still reach the mark like Reuter expects him to. As he noted, Alvarez is a very streaky player, and that can be hard to project.

No single player on the team has had a particularly amazing year in terms of hitting the long ball, with Pete Alonso hitting three and Brandon Nimmo as the only other Met with at least two.

The young catcher has proven to be a power bat in his limited time playing Major League Baseball, and he's certainly a player who could have a breakout season in 2024.
