Not every MLB fanbase will boo its own players.

One that does is the New York Mets base.

The player directly caught in the crosshairs of the recent showers of boos and expletives is shortstop Francisco Lindor.

This season Lindor is slashing just .212/.284/.407 but has hit 10 home runs.

Lindor's performance in 2023 is making his horrid 2021 performance look appreciable.

His current performance is also an easy target to point fingers at when placing blame on the team's disappointing 30-29 start despite boasting the league's largest payroll.

“I don’t want to block them out,” Lindor said. “They are expressing their frustration, and I hear them. I am right there with them. I just have to get better."

Some players, like Lindor, revel in the passion the fans bring. It gives them fuel to be better for the team that has invested so much in them. Even the fans' emotional equity has to be taken into account.

But the players still have to perform. Something Lindor believes he is on the verge of doing.

“These past two games, I haven’t got it done with people on base,” Lindor said. “I’ve hit the ball hard a couple times. I take a lot of pride in it, and I didn’t get it done. But I feel good in the way that my swing is there. I just have to put the ball in play, especially when people are on base.”

If Lindor can right the ship, the offense will benefit greatly down the stretch. With decisions looming around the approaching MLB trade deadline, every player must step up and meet the demands.

Sitting just 4.5 games back of the National League East division lead, a hot streak for Lindor could just prove the difference.
