New York Mets Star Reliever Drawing Heavy Trade Interest
Could he be the next one to go?
According to Mike Mayer of Metsmerized Online, New York Mets left-handed reliever Brooks Raley is drawing heavy trade interest.
Among the teams that are in on Raley include the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins.
Raley has posted a 2.37 ERA this season, and has a club option for $6.5 million in 2024. He also has a $1.25 million buyout for next year.
After trading Max Scherzer and David Robertson, Mets general manager Billy Eppler insisted that this isn't a rebuild or fire sale. He assured reporters that the Mets will be competitive in 2024.
So, with that being said, hanging onto Raley would help the Mets be competitive next season, as the southpaw figures to be a big piece in their bullpen.
But the price for pitchers on the trade market is expensive, meaning if the Mets can get a good return back for Raley then they should pull the trigger on a deal.
With just over 28 hours to go until the 6 p.m. deadline on August 1, the Mets have more players to trade and Raley could be one of them. If not, the lefty will be a high-leverage piece in the Mets' bullpen next season.
