New York Mets fans love when a player is honest and open to the media.

That's especially true when the player in question, right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino, has played for both the Mets and the New York Yankees

Speaking with the New York Post, Ottavino made an honest admission about the distinct differences between the fans of the Mets and those of the Yankees. A topic he is more than qualified to touch on.

In fact, Ottavino told the Post that Mets fans are more the type to enjoy the journey rather than expect instant success in all facets, like the Yankees fanbase.

"Sure. I think the Yankee fan, the modern Yankee fan, there’s a little bit more of an expectation of perfect play and an All-Star at every position," said Ottavino. "Whereas I think the Met fan, the expectation isn’t quite as high, it’s more of a level of hope."

"Like, they’re behind us and they’re hoping something great’s gonna happen. Whereas I think the Yankee fan maybe expects something great to happen, and then gets disappointed when it doesn’t happen. I think the Met fan is a little more on the journey with you, like kind of hoping for a great thing to happen."

It's worth noting that Ottavino grew up a Yankees fan. To hear him speak about how the instant gratification mindset that their fans have now is surprising. Especially given how he takes the approach of describing Mets fans as almost more. . . grounded?

Either way it's an interesting perspective that Mets fans have lower expectations in the moment. Albeit a surprising one, considering the payroll and "win-now" philosophy that owner Steve Cohen has in place.
