It's finally happening.

The New York Mets are calling up top prospect Ronny Mauricio on Friday when rosters expand to 28 players.

Joel Sherman of The New York Post was the first to report this news.

Mauricio had a big year in Triple-A Syracuse, slashing .292/.346/.506 with a .852 OPS, 23 home runs and 71 RBIs in 116 games.

Despite raking in the minor leagues, the Mets opted to let Mauricio continue to develop in Triple-A throughout the season, as opposed to giving him a shot in the major leagues.

But now, the 22-year-old will finally get a chance to show what he has got in the big-leagues in the month of September.

Mauricio, a natural shortstop, saw time at second base and in left field this season since Francisco Lindor is blocking short in the majors. However, he struggled immensely at both positions.

Even still, Mauricio's clear path to playing time in the big-leagues next month will likely come at second base with Lindor manning the shortstop position.

Mauricio is the Mets' No. 4 ranked prospect in their farm system. He is MLB Pipeline's No. 91 ranked prospect.

The last place Mets are 61-73, but with young players like Mauricio coming up there is still reason to watch them in September.
