Pair of New York Mets Pitchers Does Something For First Time Since 2015
The surging New York Mets swept the first place Arizona Diamondbacks across three games to increase their winning streak to five games and improve their record to 41-46.
In the final game, the Mets blew out the Diamondbacks by a score of 9-0, but they also received a stellar pitching performance as well. Veteran starter Carlos Carrasco tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits, walking one and striking out four batters.
Carrasco improved his record to 3-3 with a 5.16 ERA on the season.
Carrasco's strong outing came one day after Kodai Senga hurled eight innings of one-run ball of his own, while striking out 12 batters.
Behind Carrasco and Senga, the Mets accomplished something as a team for the first time since 2015.
"Kodai Senga & Carlos Carrasco each went 8 innings in the Mets’ last 2 games this is the first time the Mets have had starters go 8+ IP in back-to-back team games since Aug 2-3, 2015, when Noah Syndergaard + Bartolo Colon did so."
In a season, in which the Mets' starters have not consistently gone deep enough in games, they are beginning to receive some much-needed length out of their pitchers.
With the All-Star break just three games away, the Mets have started to climb back into the National League Wild Card race, sitting 6.5 games back of the final spot.
The Mets will begin a three-game set with the San Diego Padres on Friday night before closing the book on the first half of the regular season.
