Superstar Slugger Linked To New York Mets By MLB Insider
Although New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said it is not essential that the team adds another bat this offseason, they are reportedly engaged on this superstar slugger.
Previous reports have indicated that the Mets have spoken with the camp of designated hitter Jorge Soler.
And according to MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Mets are the perfect match for Soler.
Per Bowden, the Mets need to sign Soler if they want to be competitive this season and boost their lineup significantly by upgrading at the DH spot.
Soler, who turns 32 next month, slashed .250/.341/.512 with 24 doubles, 35 home runs and 75 RBIs for the Miami Marlins last season. He opted out of his deal after the year ended to become a free agent.
Soler has major power and would complement superstar first baseman Pete Alonso and shortstop Francisco Lindor in the middle of the Mets' lineup.
Soler led the American League with 48 home runs in 2019 and helped the Atlanta Braves win the World Series in 2021, taking home World Series MVP in the process.
While Soler does not provide positional versatility, given his defensive struggles in the outfield, he would boost the Mets' lineup and bring a ton of pop.
The Mets are reportedly focused on relief pitching at the moment, but Soler is still available and would be a major upgrade to their offense.
