Two Former Mets Stars Involved in Exciting Trade Ahead of Deadline
Two former Mets being traded for each other.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers traded starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard and cash to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for shortstop Amed Rosario, as a source told Inside the Mets.
Syndergaard, who's been on the injured list since June 8 with a right index finger blister, began a rehab assignment on July 15 and is close to returning.
On the season, Syndergaard is 1-4 with a 7.16 ERA across 12 starts. He is pitching on a one-year, $13 million deal and is owed $4.9 million for the rest of the year. The Dodgers will be paying $2 million of his remaining salary, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Syndergaard was once one of the Mets' top starters, pitching in Queens from 2015-2021. But he missed nearly two full seasons in his last two years with the Mets due to Tommy John surgery. He did however, help them reach the World Series in 2015 and make a Wild Card appearance in 2016.
Syndergaard has not been the same pitcher since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2020. This will be his fifth team in two years.
As for Rosario, he was the former No. 1 overall prospect in all of baseball. He played shortstop for the Mets from 2017-2020.
Rosario is owed $2.9 million the rest of the year. On the season, he is slashing .265/.306/.369 with a .675 OPS, three home runs and 40 RBIs.
Rosario, of course, was involved in the trade package that helped the Mets land Francisco Lindor in January of 2021.
He will now be playing for the third team of his career.
