To buy or to sell? That's the question.
Luckily the New York Mets have around a month before they have to make that decision.
On Tuesday, general manager Billy Eppler spoke to reporters and revealed what he will need to see from the team before determining whether to buy or sell.
"We hope that we can change the story," Eppler said of his struggling team. "If we can, then we can add. If it doesn't, then we'll just have to create other opportunities and see what else exists out there"
"We've got a decent amount of runway before the deadline. We hope that we can change the story. If we can, then we can add. If it doesn't, then we'll just have to create other opportunities and see what else exists out there"

According to Eppler, trade talks have yet to begin at this stage.
"This juncture, you're starting to have initial conversations about what you might do and what you might be interested and things of that nature. But nothing specific," Eppler said.
Entering play on Tuesday evening, the Mets hold a 35-43 record and are 15 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. They're also 8.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot in the NL.
The Mets were a team that was built to win-now, given the age of their roster, as well as their historic $377 million payroll. However, things haven't gone as planned and now there is question of whether they're going to be adding to their team or subtracting come next month.
If they are able to turn things around in the next month or so, the GM says they will be looking to add to their roster. If not, they will likely be sellers.
In addition to the players, who Eppler believes can turn things around based off track record, he also gave a vote of confidence to veteran manager Buck Showalter.
"He's the guy to get us back on track," Eppler said of Showalter.
