Heading into the upcoming MLB Draft, the Baltimore Orioles are in position to add even more elite talent to their organization.

After already having a pipeline considered to be the best in baseball, they'll now have three picks in the Top-35 with their selections coming at 22, 32 and 34.

Luxury-tax penalties dropped the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees down and allowed the Orioles to move up to No. 22 from No. 24. The No. 32 selection came because Gunnar Henderson won AL Rookie of the Year under the Prospect Promotion Incentive program. The No. 34 pick is the first of six selections going to teams in Competitive Balance Round A and their 101 wins earned them this spot.

This is a great result for a franchise who relies heavily on getting talented youngsters in their organization to compete with the major market teams in their division.

General manager, Mike Elias, has been able to use their high draft picks to build a competitive roster and elite farm system.

He made a bold statement that things will not change, despite them selecting lower in the draft due to their newfound success.

"I can promise you this: It will not dry up and we're going to be a first-rate scouting and player-development organization as long as the people who are in this room are here being in charge of that," he said according to Steve Melewski of MASN.

The reality is that Baltimore needs this to continue if they want to compete in the AL East.

Elias knows this and will use any opportunity possible to get more draft picks from the MLB.

"We'll take all the picks MLB wants to give us. We need them. You look at the finances, there's a lot of disparity in baseball and there's a lot of markets that have been identified as ones that should receive Competitive Balance picks, and we're one of them," he said.

So far, the Orioles have been able to create an overtly talented roster filled with top prospects.

It will now be up to the front office to continue finding elite players later in the round like Elias has proclaimed.
