Baltimore Orioles Rookie Slugger On Home Run Hot Streak

The Baltimore Orioles have a group of great young players but none of them are swinging the bat like Colton Cowser right now.

The Baltimore Orioles have committed to giving their young outfielder Colton Cowser more playing time and for good reason.

On Sunday, Cowser hit his fourth home run in his last four games and this one came in the Orioles’ 6-4 come-from-behind win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The win kept the Orioles from being swept for the first time this season.

The 24-year-old made the Opening Day roster after he spent a few weeks with the Orioles late last season. But he wasn’t in the starting lineup early as manager Brandon Hyde wanted to ease Cowser into playing time.

Well, right now there is no getting around playing the Houston, Texas, native.

His streak coincides with getting more playing time. In his first eight games he never got more than three at-bats in a game. In each of his last six games he’s gotten at least four at-bats in five of those games.

He hit his first two home runs of the season in Boston on Thursday, as he went 3-for-5 with four RBI. Then, he hit a home run against Milwaukee in the series opener on Friday. That was a solo home run.

Sunday’s shot was also a solo home run and it was his only hit of the game.

He is without question the Orioles’ hottest hitter right now. His slash line is .441/.474/.971/1.445 and his four home runs leads the team.

Anthony Santander shares the RBI lead with Cowser at 13.

Cowser batted .304 in the spring, with six home runs and 13 RBI. Scouts were buzzing about Cowser’s progress after he got a cup of coffee with the Orioles at the end of 2023 but only batted .115 in 61 at-bats.

He hit a walk-off home run to start spring training and showed the power that made him a first-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Sam Houston in Huntsville, Texas.
