Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias is always searching for roster upgrades that not only improve their Major League roster, but their organization as a whole.

This is one of the ways that he's built the best farm system in the entire league.

Elias is at it again after they signed veteran pitcher Julio Teheran to a minor league deal according to Roch Kubatko of MASN.

This comes with an invite to camp where he can attempt to make the Opening Day roster. His salary would become $2 million if he does reach the Majors at any point during the season.

Teheran had a successful run with the Atlanta Braves from 2011-19, posting an ERA of 3.67 over 229 appearances and 226 starts. In over 1,300 innings pitched, he recorded an ERA+ of 110 and earned two All-Star selections.

His career deteriorated when signing a deal with the Los Angeles Angels ahead of 2020. He was limited to only 10 appearances after testing positive for COVID-19 and finished with a career-high ERA of 10.05.

This started Teheran's streak of signing minor league deals with different teams around the league.

Still, this is a low-risk move for the Orioles that could benefit the organization in the long run.

Kyle Bradish is dealing with an elbow injury that has him on the 15-day injured list currently and might be persist throughout the year. John Means continues to recover from his elbow surgery and is projected to be available at some point in April.

The starting rotation will have tons of eyes on it this season.

They added Corbin Burnes to address the major hole at the top of their rotation, but without a healthy Bradish to pair with him, Baltimore could face some of the same issues they had in 2023.

Teheran might not be a major contributor, but if he performs well, he should be able to eat up some innings throughout the season.
