Baltimore Orioles Star Pitcher Progressing Well in Elbow Injury Recovery
There was some concerning news presented to the Baltimore Orioles during the early portion of Spring Training when it was announced that Kyle Bradish was dealing with a UCL sprain in his throwing elbow.
Anytime that injury is mentioned, it's bad news for the team and player.
Torn UCL's normally result in Tommy John surgery, something that keeps pitchers out for a year, or even longer.
The Orioles are still dealing with the recovering from that surgery with John Means who likely won't see action until April.
Not having Bradish for the early part of the season isn't ideal, but it certainly beats him missing the entire year.
Baltimore's rising ace is undergoing Platelet-rich Plasma injections, or PHP, that is supposed to help the site of the injury heal. Everyone is hoping that will allow him to recover from this sprain and not have his UCL tear entirely.
Roch Kubatko of MASN reported some positive news on the Bradish front as he played catch again and extended out to 140 feet, which is normally the maximum distance he throws in this exercise anyway.
The more rehab steps he reaches, the more likely he misses minimal time and can put this injury scare behind him.
The Orioles certainly need that.
After acquiring Corbin Burnes this offseason, the one through three starting attack of Burnes, Bradish and Grayson Rodriguez seems formidable enough for them to build upon their great year in 2023 and push for a deep playoff run.
Baltimore will continue to monitor how he feels after each throwing progression, and see if his UCL is recovering after the PHP injections.
