There have been some great stories about the Baltimore Orioles getting the best out of players they buy low on these past few years.

They've been able to build a deep farm system that way and have also gotten some usage out of journeyman type of big leaguers who join their roster and have bounce back type of seasons.

It's a testament to the front office's scouting eye and the developmental system the Orioles have in place.

However, back in 2009, they weren't able to do that with a player who became one of the faces of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Baltimore traded for infielder Justin Turner in 2008 and assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate for the 2009 season. He eventually made his debut in September and appeared across 12 games, slashing .167/.318/.167.

He got another shot in 2010 when getting called up to replace an injured player on the roster, but once again flopped in his five-game stint after failing to record a hit in nine plate appearances.

The Orioles designated Turner for assignment where he was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets.

That was the end of the story, right?

Wrong.

Really, the rest is history.

Turner also struggled with the Mets before getting released and joining the Dodgers in 2014.

He became a two-time All-Star, NLCS MVP, World Series champion and one of their best hitters during his nine-year tenure there with a slash line of .296/.375/.490, 156 home runs, 574 RBI and an OPS+ of 133.

After hitting free agency last offseason, Turner joined the Boston Red Sox where he continued to show his hitting prowess.

Now, the 39-year-old will play another season in the AL East with the Toronto Blue Jays as he's agreed to a one-year, $14.5 million deal according to Jon Morosi.

Baltimore will get a good look at Turner again as he continues to show them they missed out on a good player.
