Insider Believes Orioles Prospect Could Make Debut in 2024
The Baltimore Orioles entered Spring Training with a few storylines to watch out for.
With the addition of Corbin Burnes and the possibility that Jackson Holliday gets called up, it's an exciting time for the Orioles and this fan base after winning 101 games last season.
But putting together that performance with an American League East title only means more pressure for this franchise as they head into this year.
With a loaded farm system, Baltimore might be even better in the near future. Coby Mayo is another player who's expected to be a big part of the future of this organization and he's proven that during Spring Training.
Mayo has shown well in his 15 Spring Training at-bats, going 5-15 with three doubles. He's played well at third base and has drawn the attention of manager Brandon Hyde, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com.
Despite the recent play, Rill says it's unlikely that he will make the Opening Day roster but could make his debut this season.
"It's unlikely that Mayo will break camp with the Orioles, but he could make his MLB debut sometime in 2024."
Making the Opening Day roster for the Orioles won't be an easy task for Mayo, let alone anyone.
With Holliday expected to make his debut, and an already stacked roster with young talent, there's no shame in starting the season at Triple-A and making his MLB debut later in the season.
The former fourth-round pick has hit at a high level every step of the way, the main reason he's the No. 3 ranked prospect, according to MLB.com.
While fans will have to wait for Mayo's debut, it might be much quicker than some imagined if he keeps playing this way.
