Insider Gives Positive Update on Jackson Holliday's Chances to Make Orioles Roster
Jackson Holliday has forced the Baltimore Orioles' hand with his performance during Spring Training.
The New York Yankees faced a similar situation with Anthony Volpe during Spring Training last year when giving the young shortstop a chance to make the team.
Volpe came in with a chance to make the roster and ran away with the opportunity.
Holliday is doing the same thing.
The expectations were high for the 20-year-old coming into spring. To say that he's played to those expectations would be a disservice to what he's actually done.
Holliday has posted a .323/.344/.613 slash line, hitting two triples, two doubles, and a home run.
The game's top prospect has done everything he can to warrant an Opening Day roster spot, and according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, that seems to be in the works.
"At this point, I think it would be a surprise if he does not make the Opening Day roster."
If the Orioles are committed to winning and putting the best 26 players on the Opening Day roster, Holliday should be on the team.
He's undoubtedly one of the top eight position players in the organization and will help this team accomplish their goal of winning the AL East again and getting back to the playoffs.
Everyone knew the type of player Holliday was coming in.
He's proven that he can hit with the best of them at every step of the way and this has been no different.
The son of former big leaguer Matt Holliday, Jackson understands what it takes to play at this level.
Hearing his name on Opening Day should be a guarantee at this point, but he still has another few games to prove he's earned his chance.
