MLB Players Making Interesting Claim About Orioles World Series Chances
During Spring Training, MLB.com beat writers asked clubhouses for their opinions on who will win the 2024 World Series. There was a wide range of answers, but the Baltimore Orioles were a constant theme.
After getting swept in the ALDS a season ago, there are some concerns about how the Orioles will look in the postseason.
All of the worries are warranted, and until they prove otherwise, many will feel the same way.
However, it's important to add context to the season they had in 2023.
Baltimore entered the year with no expectations and was about two to three years ahead of schedule. Winning 101 games and the American League East was the last thing on others' minds.
With the 2024 season approaching, that's all changed.
The Orioles are now expected to win, and anything short of a playoff series victory, will be viewed as a disappointment.
Baltimore had the third most votes from players who were asked about which team will win the World Series,
"That young talent gained valuable experience last year," said an NL reliever.
Factor in the decision to land one of the best pitchers in baseball in Corbin Burnes, as well as Jackson Holliday expected to make an impact, and the Orioles are even scarier than they were a year ago.
"They had a great squad last year and a pretty good pitching staff as it was," said an AL starting pitcher. "Now, they have refined that with the additions they've made. They will be a tough team to beat."
Getting this type of praise from their peers shows just how good this team truly is.
It wasn't a fluke last season, and if anything, showed what the future of the organization will be.
This is as exciting of a time as ever for the fan base.
If they can live up to that hype, it'll be a special season for the franchise.
