Orioles' Hyde Says He Can Still Improve Despite Winning Manager of the Year
It's hard not to get the Manager of the Year award after winning an American League-best 101 games with a team in the Baltimore Orioles that wasn't projected to do much.
Brandon Hyde started his managerial tenure with the team in 2019 as someone set to oversee their rebuild. It really was unknown if he was, or could become, one of the game's best skippers.
He quickly proved who he is after winning 83 games in 2022 and the 101 games last season.
The rapid rebuild that the Orioles have been able to undergo is a credit to the front office, but also highlights how good of a job Hyde and his staff have done to continue developing young talent when they hit the Majors.
Yet, despite the rapid ascension and earning the 2023 AL Manager of the Year award, Baltimore's skipper still thinks he can get better.
"I think, like a player, I think experiences help ... I think just paying attention nightly and just trying to get better every single year, every single … really every day, analyzing myself and decisions I've made and talking it over with people, I think you just continue to improve. You're trying to improve always," he told Roch Kubatko of MASN.
What that entails will continue to be seen as Hyde enters 2024 with massive expectations placed on him and his team.
The good news for the Orioles is that he's navigated things extremely well no matter what stage of contending the franchise is in.
"So, yeah, I'm sure I've grown a lot in six years. Hopefully continue to grow," he said.
Now, Hyde will enter a new stage of his managerial career that everyone who's involved in sports hopes to be a part of.
His team is good enough to win a title and he'll be an important factor in making sure that happens.
