While the Baltimore Orioles have started the year on the right foot, going 3-1, there are still some questions about one of the decisions the front office made this offseason. Winning ignores that for the time being, but at some point, the front office needs to say when they’re going to call up Jackson Holliday.

Holliday impressed for the Orioles in Spring Training, slashing .311/.354/.600 with two home runs, two triples, and three doubles. For the top prospect in baseball, he did everything he possibly could to earn a chance in Baltimore to start the season.

Instead, the front office sent him to Triple-A and it’s uncertain when Holliday might get called up.

Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun gave five timelines for when the Orioles could call Holliday up. His predictions are when he’s ready, after April 13, if there’s an injury, a time in June, and in late August.

Each timeline has significance to it, especially with service time. It’s uncertain if Baltimore’s front office is attempting to manipulate his service time, but it wouldn’t be the first time this happened in baseball.

The Orioles have more young talent than any team in the MLB and they continue to win with their young stars on the field and in the lineup.

However, there’s a chance that Holliday could become the best one.

It’s still early and he could be called up at any moment, but it was a discouraging sign that he didn’t start the season on the Opening Day roster. He clearly deserves it and it’ll be interesting to see when that decision is made.
