Orioles Insider Says They Aren't Pursuing Former Yankees Pitcher Despite Reports
Once again, pitching continues to be the topic surrounding the Baltimore Orioles.
And while it's repetitive, there's really nothing else to discuss surrounding this roster heading into the upcoming season.
Their fielding positions and lineup are loaded, and they have young stars waiting in the minors to make their Major League debuts.
Really, the only question is how the Orioles' starting rotation will hold up throughout 2024.
If Kyle Bradish and Grayson Rodriguez truly turn into the top-of-the-rotation arms that they are projected to be, then the worry about the starting unit will largely be put to rest.
Baltimore will likely need that to happen as it seems like they won't get their preferred trade target before Opening Day.
General manager Mike Elias has largely added players to the back-end of their rotation the past couple years and it seems like that could be their route once again.
The Orioles were linked to former New York Yankees star pitcher, Domingo German, which was interesting considering he doesn't necessarily fit the profile they've targeted in the past.
Roch Kubatko of MASN cleared up this report, emphatically writing, "They aren't pursuing right-hander Domingo German in free agency despite reports."
That makes sense.
Baltimore needs to replace 192 innings after the departure of Kyle Gibson. German has never thrown over 150 and the most he ever threw in a single season was 143 back in 2019.
That was a long time ago, and that's not even mentioning the two major off-field issues the righty had during his tenure with the Yankees.
Of course, the Orioles could shock a lot of people and take a chance on the talented starter who threw a perfect game last season.
But, believe the Baltimore insider Kubatko.
If it doesn't look like a fit on paper, the player probably won't be brought in.
