Three Baltimore Orioles Successfully Undergo Surgery
On Thursday it was reported that three Baltimore Orioles minor league players successfully underwent surgeries.
The news was originally reported by MASN Sports reporter Roch Kubatko.
Three players who underwent surgery are as listed:
- INF Maikol Hernández
- INF Adam Crampton
- RHP Jean Pinto
Hernández, listed as an infielder but has spent most of his time in shortstop, made it to the Florida Complex League in 2023. The infielder slashed .179/.308/.257 last season in 38 games. He successfully underwent surgery with a left hand hamate excision.
Crampton, also listed as an infielder but who feels most at home at shortstop, competed at the Single-A level with the Delmarva Shorebirds. In 2023 he earned a slashline of .196/.272/.256 in 111 games. He underwent Tommy John surgery in his right elbow.
As a position player, Crampton is likely to return sooner than a pitcher but only in a designated hitter position. It will still take a lengthy rehab process to see him return to the field.
Finally, right-hander Pinto underwent Tommy John for his right elbow UCL. Pinto is perhaps the most significant of three not only because of his recovery time as a starting pitcher but also because he impressed with the Double-A Bowie Baysox in 2023.
In 17 games started and 81.1 innings pitched, Pinto 3.10 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP. He was hoping to experience Spring Training and showoff for the Big League club.
“It was such a beautiful experience for me,” Pinto said according to the Toronto Observer. “I’m really looking forward to growing and developing so I can be there. That’s where I want to be.
Instead, it is unlikely he will be able to take the mound in game action until mid-2025 at the earliest.
