Top Baltimore Orioles Prospect Sets Norfolk Single-Game RBI Record
The Baltimore Orioles have a ton of talented players waiting in the wings at Triple-A Norfolk. Many of their Top 30 prospects, some of whom are among the Top 100 prospects in baseball.
One is outfielder Heston Kjerstad, who spent a few games with the Orioles late last season but on Wednesday night had a career — and Norfolk Tides record-breaking — game against Charlotte.
The Tides won, 27-11, and Kjerstad had five of the Tides’ 29 hits.
He made the most of them, setting a Tides record for 10 RBI in a single game.
In the first inning, Kjerstand doubled, which scored Jackson Holliday, who is the Orioles’ No. 1 prospect and the No. 1 prospect in baseball.
After he struck out to lead off the third inning, he doubled in the fourth inning and later scored on a fielder’s choice ground ball by Kyle Stowers.
From there Kjerstad started picking up speed.
In the sixth, Kjerstad hit a three-run home run to score Errol Robinson and Holliday to give the Tides a 15-8 lead. In the seventh inning, he singled to center, which scored David Banuelos and Holliday to make it 19-8 Tides.
In the eighth, Kjerstad clobbered a grand slam, which scored Robinson, Holliday and Connor Norby, which pushed the Tides’ lead to 25-8. It was also Kjerstad’s fourth home run of the season.
For the game, Kjerstad went 5-for-7 with two home runs, two doubles, four runs and 10 RBI.
He wasn’t the only one with a big game, either. Stowers drove in seven runs as he went 4-for-7 with three runs scored. He also homered three times.
