Will Baltimore Orioles Top Prospect Make Opening Day Roster?
The Baltimore Orioles are loaded with some of the best young talent in baseball and that's without MLB Pipeline's No. 1 prospect, Jackson Holliday, yet to make his debut. Barring anything major, Holliday's expected to make his long-awaited debut in the big leagues this season.
His debut should happen early in the 2024 season, but that isn't a given until it's official. With Spring Training coming up, he has a chance to prove to the Orioles front office that he can help this team win games as they look to win a World Series.
Jake Rill of MLB.com listed one question for Baltimore this Spring Training, asking if Holliday will make the Opening Day roster.
Rill writes that it could happen on Opening Day as the Orioles take on the Los Angeles Angels. He adds that Holliday could play second base and should have a chance to start there as they're looking for a left-handed hitting second baseman with Adam Frazier no longer with the club.
The 20-year-old is one of the highest touted prospects in baseball history. For good reason, too, as Holliday has proven every step of the way that he can be one of the game's best.
He started in Single-A last season before quickly working his way up to Triple-A. He slashed .267/.396/.400 in 75 at-bats during his time with Norfolk.
Spring Training will be a big test for him as he gets at-bats against big league pitching. If he is able to showcase his offensive talent, an Opening Day debut should be in the works.
