Blake Snell Reveals If He’ll Be Ready to Face Padres on Opening Day in San Diego
Former San Diego Padres ace Blake Snell is wearing new colors this season.
Snell will be wearing the orange and black of the San Francisco Giants, and will play very close to his former team.
Snell won't have to wait long to see his former teammates, as the Giants open the season in San Diego against the Padres from March 28-31. It'll be a nice reunion for both Snell and Giants manager, Bob Melvin, who left for the Giants this offseason.
Snell, who signed with the Giants on Monday, had been working out on his own to ramp up for the season. But the question on everyone's mind remains obvious...
Will Blake Snell be Ready to Start the Season on Opening Day?
Snell told Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports that he won't be ready for Opening Day against his former team.
He did say he's in the 60-pitch range, but he hasn't been facing big league hitters.
Snell added that he'll be throwing a bullpen on Thursday, and then the Giants will set a schedule.
With every passing day that went by, it became more and more unlikely that Snell would be ready for Opening Day. However, it shouldn't take Snell too long to get ready for the season.
The Padres likely won't be facing Snell this time around in San Diego, but they'll have a chance to see him just a week later when the Padres travel to San Francisco for a three-game series against their division rivals. That series is April 5-7.
