Bob Melvin Believes 2-Game Winning Streak Will Do Wonders for Padres
The Padres took care of business in their weekend series against the Giants. The bats came alive in Mexico City, and an offensive explosion was long overdue for the gold and brown.
The Friars are currently on a two-game win streak, and manager Bob Melvin believes this could propel his team to reach their full potential. Melvin told Padres insider Bryce Miller that this short series could give his team confidence.
“The short answer would be confidence,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said Sunday, the day the team vaulted over .500 for the first time since April 12 with a 6-4 comeback against the Giants for a two-game border-crossing sweep. “It’s what we were kind of looking for coming in here. We have a lineup that should score a lot of runs, maybe not what you’re seeing here, but I think this could go a long way in making us feel good about ourselves after a bit of a sluggish start.”
Melvin could be on to something. The Padres collected 27 hits, 23 runs, and seven home runs in their two-game series against San Francisco.
The Friars have won three of their last four games and will look to continue their mini streak against NL central opponent Cincinnati Reds. Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. will finally play in front of the home crowd, and that should really get the fans and team going.
Melvin is confident in his squad, and after the type of weekend, they had, why wouldn't he be?
