Dodgers Infielder Admits Padres Deserved 2022 NLDS Victory
Get ready folks, there is going to be a ton of reminiscing going on during this weekend series of the San Diego Padres against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Everybody is going to be talking about the last time they met in last year's playoffs where the Friars finally slayed the dragon.
Nobody had the Padres, who barely snuck into the postseason thanks to a late-season win streak and new wild card rules, taking down an LA squad that won 111 games and featured some of the biggest names in the MLB. However, they defied all odds and got the job done despite not being able to finish off with a World Series.
That brings us to the 2023 seasons where both rosters look significantly different and specifically with the Dodgers, they lost some key contributors and fan favorites in Trea Turner, Cody Bellinger, and Justin Turner. Many analysts came forth prior to the season opener and listed the Padres as the favorite to win the NL West division, an opinion that hadn't held weight in some time.
The Dodgers' team manager Dave Roberts even came out during Spring Training and revealed that he would not argue with the fact that San Diego probably leapfrogged them as favorites in the division.
Youth culture is very strong in LA right now and Max Muncy is one their longest-tenured veterans right now. He has come out just before the kick-off of the series and shared his thoughts on why the Dodgers melted down against the Friars in the first round.
“When you lose in that sort of fashion, I think that stings a lot more than just being outplayed,” said Muncy. “Obviously, everyone is gonna say they outplayed us, and that’s probably true. But to me, it was more, they just brought so much more energy and were so much hungrier for it.” (Via LA Times)
This is all setting up for a classic series this weekend, get to ready to roll Padres fans!
