Fernando Tatis Jr Sends Bold Message to Padres Ahead of Big Dodgers Series
At this rate, we are not quite sure what type of Padres squad we will see every time they take the field. They are beyond locked in certain days and are able to make huge plays down the stretch that result in them stacking up their win column. However, their Thursday loss to the Twins illustrated many of the struggles that have come to define half of their games played in 2023.
Bob Melvin did not hold back in sticking up for some fishy officiating as the game unraveled but he also hated that it got to that point. With the likes of Juan Soto, Manny Machado, and a returning Fernando Tatis Jr. taking up most of the payroll, he is begging for better offensive results.
San Diego was only able to garner six hits with three runs and for a team looking to finally find some consistency, that is not going to cut it. Soto has started to see some change in his batting results thanks to a few routine tweaks and got two of their six hits but as always, it must be a collective effort.
Nando also recorded two hits with a big home run in the first inning to get the Friars off on a good note but he is not satisfied with his individual outing. He knows just how much more prepared they are going to have to be heading into this NL West showdown against the Dodgers and sent a clear message to the rest of his clubhouse.
“Of course, it’s urgency,” Tatis said. “We just gotta play better, period. Whoever we’re playing next, but especially now we’re playing the Dodgers. Division games. They’re very important. So we better step the (expletive) up.”

The 24-year-old superstar also echoed the thoughts that Melvin shared.
“I agree 100 percent on everything that he said today,” Fernando Tatis Jr. said. “We have been saying too much, ‘Oh, it’s gonna come, it’s gonna come.’ But we’ve gotta make it happen. It’s not about it’s gonna come. We gotta make it happen. I feel like everybody here in this clubhouse is good enough to make it happen."

Indeed actions do speak louder than words and the Friars have every reason to prove that moving forward.
