For the Padres' Playoff Hopes, History is Not On Their Side
In order for this season's predictions to come true, the Padres might need a miracle.
Not might, they definitely will need a miracle.
In order for the Padres to make a push, Kevin Acee from the San Diego Union-Tribune says that the Padres will most likely have to play to a record of at least 24-8 if they want a chance for a wild card spot.
They'll need to do that, and also hope that some other teams ahead of them like the Marlins, Giants and Reds start to sputter towards the end of the season.
So, like Acee so eloquently put in his article, "How do you say it is over without saying it is over?"
It's simple really. You just smile, wave and play your heart out until somebody tells you you get to play in October or not.
So what would it take for the Padres to play in October?

In the Expansion Era (since 1961) no team with a losing record 130 games into a season has gone on to win more than 23 of its final 32 games...
The best the Padres have done over any 32-game stretch this season is 18-14.
So, if the Padres can't make history over the last month, will this go down as one of the biggest disappointments in recent baseball history?
Absolutely.
The Friars invested so much money into this team, and the underperformance of this roster has to go down as one of the worst of all time. They went from a team that was predicted to make, and possibly win a World Series to a team that has to hope for a miracle to make the wild card.
