Former Padres Top Outfield Prospect Released by Orioles
As we get closer and closer to the beginning of the 2023 MLB season, not every player that participated in Spring Training will be able to stick with their main squad for the rest of the year. Some of our own Friars players have had to learn this the hard way as there are only so many big league roster spots.
Among other names today, a former Padres prospect in Franchy Cordero was announced that they were released by the Baltimore Orioles. Cordero was a top-10 prospect for San Diego back in 2018.
This move was announced by the MLB's Mark Feinsand.

Cordero's first three seasons in the MLB were with the Padres but he never played more than 40 games in any of them due to struggling with injuries. He was very versatile in the outfield whenever he did suit up but his unavailability led to him getting traded to the Royals.
After one season with the Royals, he would then find himself on the move yet again and spend his next two playing years with the Boston Red Sox. The 28-year-old posted a slash line between then of .209/.279/.350 but the organization opted to go in a different direction and Cordero gave Baltimore a shot this spring.
Many were very surprised that the veteran outfielder was not wanted by the Orioles after an impressive Grapefruit League stint. His slash line significantly improved to .413/.426/.674 and Cordero was a very consistent hitter whenever he stepped up to the plate.
However, the former Padres top prospect will be in search of a new home yet again.
