The MLB announced the Players of the Week for this past weekend, and Chas McCormick took home the honors in the American League, while CJ Abrams took home the award in the National League.

Both players had stellar weekends, and were deserving of the award.

If one of those name sounds familiar, that CJ Abrams is, in fact, the one who headlined the Padres package for superstar outfielder Juan Soto a year ago. Abrams was the big name in the trade alongside Mackenzie Gore, in the historic package that brought Soto to San Diego.

Abrams has had an up and down year in LA, but it's nice to see him starting to figure things out. While the Nationals lost two of three to the Cardinals this weekend, Abrams was a bright spot, hitting .462 with three extra-base hits and an OPS of 1.385.

Abrams is continuing to build on his strong season, hitting .254 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs entering Monday. He's been the Nationals full-time shortstop this year, and despite the errors, has continued to get more and more comfortable in his role.

Abrams is still just 22 years old, so the future definitely looks bright for the former Padres first-round pick.

Of course, the Padres came away with one of baseball's best players in that trade in Soto, but if Abrams keeps putting up weeks like this, it'll definitely sting a little bit more.
